Carolyn Joyner is a community-centered literary artist based in the nation’s capital and the author of Imagine His Mother Witnessing (2026) an intimate encounter with language, healing, poetry as witness, and the life-restoring power of art. Joyner is a former writing instructor for WritersCorp, DC Public Library, River of Words Community Project, and Poets on the Greenline. She holds an MA in Creative Writing from The Johns Hopkins University and has received numerous artist fellowships from The Cave Canem Foundation, The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, The Hurston/Wright Foundation, and The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA). Her publication credits include various digital and print literary magazines for which she received a Best of the Net nomination, among them: ArLiJo, Beltway Poetry Quarterly, Full Bleed, Gathering Ground, Little Patuxent Review, Obsidian, Pleiades, Plume Poetry 10, and Revise the Psalm: Work Celebrating the Writing of Gwendolyn Brooks.
